AISD is in the process of rezoning and the initial proposal by an AISD employee will divide the Lost Creek Ranch community and force many of our children out of our own neighborhood school to a new one. However, the School Board has not voted yet and the decision is not final. You have the opportunity the stand together with your community and make your voice heard. This decision will set an important precedent, allowing the School Board to continue to make more cuts to Lost Creek Ranch as Marion becomes full again in the future. You and your children could be next. Let’s stand together as a community and fight to keep our children together at our neighborhood school!

We believe that the children of Lost Creek Ranch should not be forced out of Marion Elementary for the following reasons:

Lost Creek is not just a neighborhood. We are a community where our children play together at pool, parks, and festivals. This sense of community is very important to the healthy social development of our children and we believe it should be preserved by continuing to send them all to the same school.
Marion Elementary is located within the perimeters of Lost Creek and the name on the building is “Marion Elementary at Lost Creek Ranch.” This creates the reasonable belief with the minds of Lost Creek residents that Marion is in fact our neighborhood school. For this reason, we do not believe that our children should be forced out to make room for children from other neighborhoods.
When the original houses were in the building process in Lost Creek, Ryland Homes owned the land that Marion Elementary is built on and residents were promised a neighborhood school in the future. Ryland eventually sold the land to AISD for a token amount with the agreement that the school district would maintain the appearance of the school to match the rest of Lost Creek. This further promoted the belief by Lost Creek residents that this was in fact our neighborhood school.
Although the School Board has used proximity as the central reason for moving the southeast corner of Lost Creek to the new school, many of our children will actually be over a mile from the new school. In most every case, this is farther than the current distance that these residents travel to Marion Elementary.
Due to perimeter fencing around our entire neighborhood there are only two exits that children and parents will be able to use to leave Lost Creek and go to the new school. This means that people will be forced to first travel away from and then back up to the new school, thus making the proximity to the new school much farther than it would appear on a map.
Many of our children are currently within walking distance to Marion. However, with the increased distance to the new school, many of the children in the affected area will not be able to continue walking to and from school.
Children who are within walking distance to the new school will be forced to travel on Angel and Exchange Parkways past several dangerous parking lots of retail establishments, including Wal-Mart. In addition, they will be forced to cross a dangerous major intersection at Angel and Exchange.
Parents driving their children to school will be forced to make a nearly impossible left turn out of the neighborhood from Bradford Trace onto Exchange Parkway in early morning traffic.
Children from Spring Meadow and Reid Farm are already bused out of their own neighborhoods and into Lost Creek to attend Marion. This means that they could continue to be safely taken down Exchange Parkway and through the intersection at Angel and Exchange.
Within AISD, there is no precedent that has been set taking residents of a neighborhood out of the school located within their community.
Currently, Marion Elementary serves two neighborhoods that are based across Greenville & into Lost Creek Ranch. It would require an additional .2 miles on the bus on Exchange Parkway for these children to attend elementary #15.
The Collin County Mobility Plan includes construction that will turn Angel Parkway (the road that the children of LCR must cross to Elem. #15) into a divided 6 lane road. AISD has stated that when this construction begins they will be forced to begin busing LCR students across Angel. In essence, this plan takes children who cost the district absolutely no money to transport to school & turn them into children who are dependent upon a bus for transportation.
